In a statement, to which VerAngola had access, the institute justifies the postponement with the fact that it is necessary to expand logistical support in the different census sections.
"Due to the need for some extension of logistical support in the different census sections, INE previously informed the multisectoral support committee for the 2024 census about the need to extend the census period from July 19th to September 19th, 2024", reads the statement.
Although the start of the census has been postponed, INE reaffirms that "there continues to be firm support from the different ministerial departments that make up the multisectoral commission and this gives credit to the fact that the preparation for the 2024 census continues smoothly".
Furthermore, the institute also recalls that it has been "firmly" complying with the various important phases to complete this year's census, namely the updating of the census cartographic network across the country, which made it possible to update more than 92 thousand census sections, followed by "massive and coordinated" implementation of the pilot census in seven provinces, 14 municipalities and an equal number of communes.
After completing these phases, the institute "under the auspices of the national technical group" has carried out the "training act for provincial, municipal and communal technical assistants".
"Additionally, the technical group has moved to all locations in the country with the aim of mobilizing and raising awareness in society around what is the largest statistical operation in 10 years", the statement reads.
With this postponement, the census will then begin on September 19th and, according to Angop, will last for a period of 30 days, with completion scheduled for October 19th.
