Although around 700 vehicles are needed for the census to work without constraints, the government official explained that the Executive will only acquire 246 vehicles, as it will reuse vehicles from the 2014 census, as well as vehicles from the 2022 elections for this year census.
It should be noted that the 2024 census will feature, for the first time, a digital aspect, and for this purpose, census takers will use tablets to collect data. Therefore, in order to guarantee this work, Francisco Furtado, cited by Angop, made it known that progress will be made with the acquisition of 70 thousand tablets.
Currently, he said, two commissions are guiding the competitions to obtain the resources, adding that the creation of logistical conditions is also underway, as well as the organization of the number of tablets and vehicles needed to guarantee the census.
Francisco Pereira Furtado also informed that the process has already been completed in some provinces, with the cartographic network being more than half updated (73 percent), writes Angop.
He said there is a general involvement of society, especially provincial governments, armed forces, units of the National Police and the Ministry of the Interior, and added that he hopes to "raise awareness" among the population: "We hope to raise awareness and teach people about the importance of the census, about the importance of each one of us registering so we can know who we are, how many we are, where we are and what we do".
This Wednesday, the capital hosted the Training Seminar for the Coordinators of the Provincial Multisectoral Commission to Support the Conduct of the 2024 census, under the motto "Together We Count for Angola" and opened by Francisco Pereira Furtado.
On the occasion, Manuel Homem, governor of Luanda, said that the province he leads is the one with the highest population density, and the teams have been strengthened with the aim of completing its cartography, thus facilitating "all this action that is being planned for the 2024 census".
"We are aware of some challenges, but at the provincial level, we recently held a coordination meeting with municipal administrators and provincial teams, to assess the difficulties that are being faced and encourage the participation of our provincial teams", he pointed out, quoted by Angop.
