The information was provided by Manuel Alberto Bole at the launch of Operation Decent Work, with national coverage and fiscal actions that integrate the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), General Tax Administration (AGT), Migration and Foreign Service (SME), Service of Criminal Investigation (SIC) and the National Police (PN).

Of the total of 133,424 violations of labor legislation registered in the last five years by the IGR, 80.5 percent were in the sectors of commerce, service provision and extractive and processing industries.

7466 work accidents were also recorded, of which 2 percent were fatal, 17 percent serious and 81 percent minor.

Through the Work and Law Line, 18,048 complaints were received from users, the majority reporting bad practices in the workplace, according to Manuel Bole.

On Wednesday, the authorities begin the Decent Work operation, which will last approximately three months involving, under the coordination of the General Labor Inspectorate, 50 brigades, starting in China City, where more than 200 establishments will be visited.

The objective, he highlighted, is "to guarantee decent work by combating all levels of precarious work, throughout the national territory, with a view to improving working conditions".

Working hours, right to vacation, national minimum wage, safety, hygiene and health at work, risk assessment map for accidents at work and occupational diseases, occupational health medical examinations, combating harassment, Social Security contributions, status migration of expatriate workers are the main focus of inspectors.

The operation will have three phases, lasting one month in each phase, the first of which will focus on the commerce, extractive and transformation industries, the second phase on the property security sector and the third on the civil construction sector, works public and mining sector.

Asked by Lusa about the existence of minors working in mines, Manuel Bole stated that this industry is one of IGT's focuses and some situations have been identified in which "companies facilitate the entry of minors to carry out the activity".

"We have isolated situations and at national level we have a body responsible for verifying the work of minors in companies and which is responsible for carrying out these surveys (...) whenever we identify these isolated situations, we contact related bodies, such as INAC (National Children's Institute) to safeguard the condition of minors", he indicated.
