Evolution of the pandemic forces postponement of the draw of Girabola

The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) decided to postpone, without a date, the draw for the football championship of the 2020/21 season, scheduled for Wednesday, due to the increase in cases of covid-19 in the country.

In a press release, made public this Tuesday, the FAF says that the feasibility of the draw for the biggest competition in national football was evaluated at a board meeting attended by the coordinator of the medical department of the national teams.

The body that oversees football, which says it follows "with concern the sharp rise" of cases of covid-19 in the country, says that "it will always put the good life first, following all the guidelines of the health authorities".

"According to the presidential decree, which released all sports activities from 27 June onwards, we must, however, be and be extremely cautious, in the perspective of marking firm and safe steps, for the good of all football makers ", justifies.

The draw for the Girabola 2020/21 was scheduled for this Wednesday. The race is scheduled to start on August 15th, although it is "subject to the evolution of covid-19".

The FAF scheduled the inspection of the country's fields for the period between 13 and 31 July.

The clubs unanimously decided on 30 April to cancel Girabola, which was interrupted in March due to the covid-19 pandemic, mainly to "safeguard the health and high expenses of athletes whose contracts expired in May".

The decision of the clubs active in Girabola was presented during a meeting with the Angolan Football Federation, which analyzed the competition's interregnum after the 25th round was played.

The national football championship, then led by Petro de Luanda, with 54 points, three less than 1º de Agosto, four-time champion in second place, was suspended in March following the decree on the state of emergency.

For the 2020/21 season, 16 teams are already confirmed in the race.

Among the various administrative procedures for the next 2020/21 sports season and club licensing rules, the FAF requires a football field / stadium insurance policy, report and accounts approved by an authorized audit, among others.

Clubs must also provide financial proof with a bank guarantee of at least 100,000,000 kwanzas before the start of the season.
