Institute that legalizes churches evaluates complaint submitted by Angolan bishops of the IURD

:

According to the director of INAR, Francisco Castro Maria, who was reacting to the new developments at the IURD, which occurred last week, with Angolan pastors and bishops taking over the church, for not agreeing with the management of the Brazilians, the current reaction is a consequence of situation reported in November 2019.

"We received the manifesto from the Angolan pastors and bishops and we have been working on it, more than that we cannot advance anything. Now it is up to the organs of justice to pronounce themselves, especially to the PGR (Attorney General's Office)", said Francisco Castro Maria , in statements to the agency Lusa.

Asked to comment on the alert made to INAR by the Brazilian leadership, in a document published on its page on a social network, which they called "right of reply", the Angolan official devalued the same, stressing that they are well within the situation.

"We are aware of the situation, it does not affect us at all, they are not the ones who have to alert us, this alert for us does not say anything. We have been working on the matter since November, so they have to wait, they don't have to warn us about anything, "he said.

In the "right of reply", the Brazilian leadership of the IURD was surprised by several reports that said that "some churches were invaded together by dissident and unknown pastors".

In the document, the Brazilian leadership, which criticized "the biased and slanderous way" that two national news outlets conducted the process, rejected the information that the IURD is being led by an Angolan wing or a Brazilian wing, stressing that it is of "a world institution, run by the spirit of God and with a legally constituted board of directors".

"What we have seen are criminal acts, verging on terrorism, in addition to the inertia of some competent authorities", says the document, alerting the PGR and the National Police that "the crimes in which they quote that will curb, have already occurred and are perpetuating themselves through expulsions of Brazilian, Angolan, Mozambican pastors from home churches on a voluntary basis ".

"We alert INAR, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, that a criminal organization is declaring itself a new church", says the Brazilian leadership.

Asked if INAR received any request for legalization for a new IURD, Francisco Castro Maria reinforced that there is only the manifesto of N november of Angolan bishops and pastors.

"Let's wait. At our level, we are dealing with the matter, only for the time being we cannot say anything, even because we are working in coordination with the justice bodies, especially the PGR, and the bodies of the Interior Ministry , the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), so let's wait ", he stressed, stressing that in this type of situation," each one tries to wash their skin ".

Last week, Angolan bishops and pastors took over the direction of the IURD, for not agreeing with the Brazilian administration, whom they accuse of the practice of currency evasion, money laundering and racism, as well as castration.

In December 2019, the PGR instituted two criminal proceedings against the IURD, based on the complaints made by Angolan pastors.

The IURD, founded by Edir Macedo in 1977, has accumulated controversies all over the world, including involvement in an alleged illegal adoption network in Portugal, and in other Portuguese-speaking countries, such as São Tomé and Príncipe, where the faithful revolted against the arrest of a Sao Tome pastor in a protest where a young man was killed.

The religious organization has already been in the sights of justice in several countries, in addition to Brazil, where Edir Macedo, who built a true business empire and came to be considered one of the richest evangelical pastors in the country, was arrested in 1992 on charges of charlatanism and swindling, which were later annulled.
