Adão de Almeida calls for every Angolan to be an “ambassador” for tourism

Each Angolan must be an “ambassador” for the country’s tourism. The appeal was made by Adão de Almeida, Minister of State and head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, this Thursday, during his speech at the opening of the 7th edition of the International Tourism Exchange (BITUR), which runs until Saturday in Lubango. On the occasion, the minister also stated that national citizens must be the first interested in exploring and getting to know the national tourism potential.

If national tourism becomes a vibrant reality, foreign tourism will emerge more easily, said the Minister of State, having also considered that it is in this condition that the Angolan's primary mission involves promoting the country, culture, history, etc., as well as other tourist components.

"Global tourism is increasingly competitive and we are all too few to make Angolan tourism a sector capable of competing with other nations. If every tourist who comes to Angola leaves with a good image of our hospitality, they are a potential promoter of tourism there wherever", said Adão de Almeida, quoted by Angop.

To achieve this, he said there was a need for a "bolder and more pragmatic strategy", with the capacity to offer comparative advantages and, in this way, encourage investors to choose Angola as a destination to invest.

At the time, he considered that every tourist who does not visit the country becomes a lost opportunity to support the development of the economy, as well as create jobs for young people, raise foreign exchange and make Angola grow.

In this sense, he suggested to the Ministry of Tourism to work with the Ministry of Territorial Administration, provincial governments and municipal administrations, in order to encourage greater involvement in the promotion of local tourism in local administration bodies, writes Angop.

He also said that we have to "put each province and each municipality on the tourism map: "We have to put each province and each municipality on the tourism map, challenging them to take their share in promoting and developing of tourism in Angola, from the outset, encouraging the development of Provincial and Municipal Tourism Plans".

Among other aspects, he highlighted the relevance and interest that the Government attributes to this sector, such as the fact that the country recently stopped requiring tourist visas from 98 countries, among others.

Who also intervened in the opening of the exchange was Márcio Daniel, Minister of Tourism. On the occasion, he argued that strategic investment is necessary in infrastructure, human resources training, marketing and policies that promote the development of the sector he directs.

The holder of the Tourism portfolio also highlighted the fact that it is essential to continue creating a business climate favorable to investors, as well as ensuring safety and accessibility to tourist destinations, in which public-private partnerships must play a key role. in the process, allowing a holistic and sustainable approach, writes Angop.

"Tourism is not just a means of attracting visitors, it is a bridge that connects nations, peoples, cultures and economies", he said, adding: "Angola with its stunning landscapes, its diverse and secular cultural heritage and its unique hospitality , has extraordinary tourism potential that, when explored strategically, can become the driving force behind a new era in our country's economy."

In his intervention, among other aspects, he also mentioned the exemption of tourist visas for more than 90 countries, as well as the inauguration of the new Luanda International Airport 'Dr. António Agostinho Neto'.

"Tourism is one of the most promising and dynamic industries in the world and Angola has vast potential in this sector, so at BITUR it is everyone's responsibility to join forces to boost tourism, ensuring that it becomes a fundamental pillar for the diversification of the economy", considered the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi.

BITUR started this Thursday and will run until next Saturday, under the motto "Tourism as a determining factor for the diversification of the economy in Angola". With participants, in addition to Angola, from South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cape Verde, Brazil, Portugal and Spain, the event will also witness the launch of the Malanje Tourist Route, as well as the initialing of a memorandum of understanding in the field of technical-professional training between the Institute for Tourist Promotion (Infotur) and the National Institute for Employment and Professional Training (INEFOP).
