According to the environmentalist, over these three years of work, Otchiva – a project for the protection, conservation and restoration of mangroves – has mobilized various branches of science, and the objective of the book is to raise awareness among citizens and, in particular, public managers on this matter.

"It was a work (...) of three years (...). Otchiva mobilized an entire science, we are talking about biologists, geologists, environmentalists, journalists, because the book aims mainly to educate and raise awareness among all citizens, in particular our public managers, about the birds that exist in the wetlands of Lobito", she pointed out, in statements to Televisão Pública de Angola (TPA).

"In addition to flamingos, the bird that represents the symbol of our identity, there are other birds of international importance, but unfortunately these ecosystems are threatened and so is the gentle fauna, therefore, by launching this book we want to make people aware of the birds that exist in these ecosystems, since only what is known is protected", she added.

Fernada Renée said that the work was prefaced by Dr. Musonda Mumba, general secretary of the Ramsar Convention.

"It's an honor and it's Angola's work to be presented (...)", she said, quoted by TPA, adding: "Because Angola, due to its wetlands, is also a global route for migratory birds, and not only that, also for we promote tourism and inspire birdwatchers from all over the world to also visit our wetlands and clearly observe our birds in Angola".

According to information shared by Otchiva on its Facebook page, the book launch will take place at the UN's International Environmental House, in Geneva.

Regarding the launch of this book in the country, Renée pointed out that it is scheduled to take place in June, in Lobito (Benguela), followed by Luanda, writes Angop.

The book, according to Otchiva, included, among others, the collaboration of photographers Edson Tadeu Bastos, Alberto Chiquito, Marco Romero and Fábio Samuel, as well as editors Karelia Costa, Prof Carmo Montenegro, Alberto Chiquito and Fernanda Renée, in a text that was reviewed by journalist Alves Fernandes.
