Angolans abroad await place in quarantine centers to be able to return

Taking into account the mandatory quarantine imposed by the Government on citizens arriving in the country, the repatriation of Angolans in the diaspora is currently dependent on the capacity of institutional quarantine centers, which at the moment are unable to accommodate more people.

The information was provided by MIREX Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, who was speaking to the press at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport. The official affirmed that there is an Inter-ministerial Commission whose objective is to create conditions to carry out these humanitarian flights and to make its citizens return to the country who manifest this desire.

"There are about seven thousand Angolans abroad, departed by air," he said, adding that the presence of national citizens in neighboring countries with land borders with Angola was also noted. In the latter case, border provinces have guaranteed quarantine spaces, he said, quoted by Angop.

However, at this moment the biggest problem is with Angolans who will have to return to Luanda by air, after which they need space and living conditions so that they can comply with the quarantine.

The Secretary of State said that in this context the challenges are great, stating that the Executive is trying to create conditions to welcome all expatriates, who, in due time, may return.

Domingos Vieira Lopes also ensured MIREX's contact with the embassies in the countries where Angolan communities are present. "As a result, we have increased the appropriations for embassies, so that they can better help these people until the conditions are ready for their return," he added.

The official also said that the forty or so Angolan citizens in Turkey were accommodated by the Angolan Embassy in the country, being repatriated as soon as possible.
