Minister of Public Works announces demolition of three buildings in Luanda soon

Three buildings in Luanda – namely Lot 1, in Prenda, as well as buildings 82 and São José, both on Avenida Comandante Valódia – will soon be demolished. In addition to these three buildings in the capital, is also scheduled for soon the demolition of the FAP building in the province of Huambo.

The information was provided by the Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos. Speaking to Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), the minister said that they foresee "soon the demolition of Lot 1 of Prenda, the building on Avenida Comandante Valódia called building 82, the FAP building, in Huambo, and others, also the São José building located on Avenida Comandante Valódia, in Luanda".

According to the holder of the Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing portfolio, there are over 500 buildings in the country "that deserve some concern", of which at least 100 "are buildings at risk".

"We are concerned and over 500 buildings have been identified that deserve some concern, of which a bit over 100 are buildings at risk for our country", he said.

It is recalled that last Friday, the Municipal Administration of Luanda ordered the evacuation of building no. 236 'São José', on Avenida Comandante Valódia, due to structural anomalies that put the stability of the building into question.

According to Jornal de Angola, technicians from the Provincial Government of Luanda and the Angola Engineering Laboratory have 30 days to analyze the condition of the aforementioned building, whose work is ongoing.

According to Cláudio Revelas, deputy administrator for the Technical and Infrastructure area of the municipality of Luanda, the issue of family relocation is also being analyzed.

For now, residents, according to Jornal de Angola, will stay with family members until a place is established to relocate them.
