According to the spokesperson for the Public Water Company (Epal), production is reduced in the main seasons due to the rains, which have been increasing the level of turbidity.
"When this happens we have to carry out a more careful treatment process, to guarantee that the water comes out within quality standards. Given this situation, production reduces and distribution is also affected", Vladimir Bernardo told Lusa.
On the 13th of this month, Epal reported that due to the occurrence of heavy rains in the catchments attached to the company's water treatment plants, located along the Kwanza and Bengo rivers, the water produced has reached consumers with a high level of turbidity and color change.
In the statement, Epal also stated that due to the situation, there is a significant change in the characteristics of the raw water, forcing the company to carry out intermittent shutdowns in the systems.
"It may not be rainfall here in the city, but where we have our catchments, especially when it rains in other provinces, we feel the consequences where we have our catchments, on the Kwanza River and along the Bengo River", said Vladimir Bernardo, highlighting that this situation has been going on for at least three weeks.
The Epal spokesperson was unable to specify the number of people affected, stressing that the main water supply systems, namely the Kikuxi and Kifangondo regions, are affected.
"The distribution centers that we have, a total of 34, work every day, basically there is water supply every day, but in reduced quantities", he added.
Many residents have been forced to use tanker trucks to fill their tanks due to supply limitations.
The person in charge highlighted that the company is resolving the problem, with the expectation that supply will return to normal in some areas of the province over the weekend.
