The municipal administration said, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, that the aforementioned anomalies put the stability of the building into question.

"The Municipal Administration of Luanda informs that there was an alert regarding building no. 236 'São José', on Avenida Comandante Valódia, Urban District of Sambizanga, as a result of structural anomalies that compromise the stability of the building", it reads in the note.

The municipal administration also informs that "following the preliminary inspection, measures were taken to immediately vacate the building, while technical teams from the Luanda Provincial Government, Ministry of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing and Civil Protection and Firefighters carry out the building stabilization work".

In a meeting, held this Friday, with the residents' committee, clarifications were provided regarding the "procedures for the immediate evacuation of the building, in order to safeguard the safety of families and the good life".

According to Flávio Inocêncio, head of the residents' committee, cited by Angop, so far no information has been provided regarding the evacuation format, especially regarding the place where the residents will be housed.

The nine-story building is the 'home' of at least fifty families, and has been in existence for more than four decades, says Angop, which says it found that five of the building's 55 support pillars have signs of wear.

During the evacuation process, the authorities isolated the building in question and two other neighbors, in an operation that involves the coordination, on site, of personnel from the national police and firefighters.
