Government and unions sit down again at the negotiating table to try to stop a general strike

With the aim of trying to stop the progress of the general strike in the public sector, which is scheduled to begin on the 20th of this month, the unions and the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security will sit down again, this Wednesday, at the same table to assess the progress of negotiations around the demands booklet.

Teresa Rodrigues Dias, Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, will chair this Wednesday's meeting, where it is planned to address the recommendations resulting from the First Ordinary Meeting of the National Council for Social Concertation.

Furthermore, according to a statement, cited by the newspaper Opaís, the demands that are part of the demands list, as well as other matters, will also be reviewed.

It should be remembered that, last weekend, three trade union centrals in the country (Força Sindical, UNTA-Confederação Sindical and the Central Geral dos Sindicatos Independentes e Livres de Angola-CGSSILA) gave the 'green light' to the interpolated general strike, starting next week.

Among the demands that motivate this strike – which has three phases planned, namely between the 20th and 22nd of March, then from the 22nd to the 30th of April and, finally, from the 3rd to the 14th of June – includes, for example, an increase in wages national minimum to 245 thousand kwanzas.

Regarding the national minimum wage, at the beginning of this month, Teresa Rodrigues indicated that the proposal to increase the minimum wage would be discussed again within 45 days. However, in reaction, the unions went public to say that they would not wait for another 45 days to continue negotiations.
