71-year-old nurse is the first Angolan woman to be vaccinated against covid-19 in the country

Amelia Gourgel became, this Tuesday, the first citizen to be vaccinated against covid-19 in the country. On the day that went down in history, the 71-year-old nurse, who worked for 42 years in the health sector, showed relief and left an incentive to the population to get vaccinated against this disease.

The nurse, according to Angop, was vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine of Indian origin AstraZeneca.

The day was marked by words of hope from the Angolan woman, who feels that she has already fulfilled her duty: "I don't even know what is the feeling, but it is of duty done. It is very important because I know that from now on I am immunized," she said, in statements to Radio Super 99.

Admitting that she feels happy with this advance, the nurse also left an appeal to the population, so that they are not afraid of the vaccine. "Get the vaccine without fear", she stressed.

In a symbolic way, 50 people were also vaccinated on Tuesday afternoon, including health professionals, security personnel and people with various diseases, reports Expansão.

Angola also became on Tuesday a historic milestone by being the first Portuguese-speaking country and the third in southern Africa to receive vaccines against covid-19. Through the Covax initiative, the country received a batch of 624,000 doses.
