"I have all expectations and all priorities, but as I have just arrived I will be able to say, but what I think the role of any ambassador is, in addition to national services, is to strengthen and strengthen this bilateral relationship between the two countries", said Pedro Pessoa and Costa, in Luanda.
Speaking to journalists, in the protocol room at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, in Luanda, after arriving in the capital, the diplomat, who expressed his satisfaction with the new mission, said that his challenge is to strengthen relations between both countries.
For the Portuguese ambassador, who says he knows Angola, but "not with due depth", the bilateral relationship, which "has been around for decades", always has "all the potential to be an even better relationship".
Asked whether the spread of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) could have an impact on relations between Angola and Portugal, Pedro Pessoa and Costa underlined that "the pandemic" must be carefully monitored.
"This is a whole theme that is developing little by little in other places, faster and less quickly [...] and I think that it is something, after a declared pandemic, that we must all carefully monitor", he stressed.
In addition to trade, Angola and Portugal have agreements signed in the fields of justice, health, tourism, culture, engineering, education, youth, environment, science and technology, among others.
