Unemployment rate rises 7.5 percent in the last quarter of the year to 32.9 percent

The unemployment rate in Angola increased by 7.5 percent in the last quarter of 2021, year on year, and fell by 3.5 percent compared to the previous quarter, settling at 32.9 percent, according to the National Statistics Institute. (INE).

According to the Quick Information Sheet (FIR) of the Employment Survey in Angola, sent this Tuesday to Lusa and referring to the last three months of 2021, in that period more than 5.3 million unemployed were registered, corresponding to a year-on-year change. of 12.7 percent.

The FIR states that the economically active population in the last three months of 2021 was 16.2 million people, the employed population was 10.8 million, the unemployed population was 5.3 million and the population with informal employment was 8.7 million. millions.

The employment rate in the same period reached 61.2 percent, having registered a negative year-on-year change of (-2.5 percent) compared to the last quarter of 2020, when it was set at 62.8 percent and an increase of 1.3 percent compared to the third quarter, announced the INE.

The chart on the main indicators by quarter also points out that the unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2021 was 32.9 percent, compared to 30.6 percent in the same quarter of 2020.
