Interruption of the railway line between Luanda and Malanje costs more than 11,000 dollars per week

The Luanda Railway (CFL) still has no date for the reestablishment of the rail link with Malanje, interrupted last Friday, estimating the cost of the service stoppage at more than eleven thousand dollars a week.

According to a company statement, "the technical teams continue to work hard on the site to restore the circulation of trains to Malanje as soon as possible", interrupted since last Friday due to the derailment of a fuel train.

The train, which transported 480,000 liters of diesel to Malanje, derailed near a town 10 kilometers from Lucala station, with some cisterns overturned.

The accident happened in the so-called red zone, of 215 kilometers, between Zenza do Itombe and Cacuso, built in the second half of the 19th century and which has not been rehabilitated, adds the statement.

The CFL teams started by transferring fuel from the overturned cisterns to others, trying to avoid the spillage of diesel and proceeded to rerail the six cisterns that did not overturn.

The technicians also started to remove the tank wagons that had fallen on a cliff to put them back on the railway line and the company says that it is not possible to come up with a date for the replacement of the Luanda-Malanje railway circulation.

"As it is a place where geography presents a rugged scenario, the difficulties that the use of heavy equipment requires has delayed the good pace of work", justifies the CFL, estimated the losses of the service interruption at 7,589,307, 00 kwanzas per week (11,300 dollars).

The company also says that an investigation was opened to investigate the causes of the accident.
