The announcement of the reduction in customs duties on Angolan products (from 32 to 15 percent) was made this Thursday in a White House statement seen by VerAngola.
The reduction was made official through a White House executive order, placing Angola among a select group of African countries that benefit from a preferential regime of moderate tariffs, according to a statement from the Angolan Embassy in the US, cited by Jornal de Angola.
This decision represents a historic achievement for Angola's economic diplomacy and is the result of an ongoing process of dialogue and collaboration between the authorities of both countries.
Thus, in recent months, the Government, through entities such as the Ministries of Industry and Commerce and Foreign Affairs, has established close contacts with competent US entities, coordinated by Agostinho Van-Dúnem, Angolan Ambassador to the US.
These initiatives aimed to establish a platform for mutual understanding, based on predictability and reciprocity in trade relations between the two countries, the statement states.
Thus, as part of this process, an official letter signed by Rui Miguêns, Minister of Industry and Commerce, was sent to the US government, reiterating Angola's interest in intensifying economic talks with the US.
