According to a press release, Ricardo de Abreu was speaking during an extended meeting with the company's employees, in which he presented the new members of the board of directors, appointed on Tuesday.

To the new members of TAAG's administration, namely António dos Santos Domingos, president of the board, and Nelson de Oliveira, president of the executive committee, the minister asked that they "be the driving forces in resolving the problems that prevent the company from moving forward and position itself as a reference company".

"The timely navigability of the existing fleet on the routes in operation and the guarantee of satisfaction on domestic and international routes for TAAG passengers have been facing obstacles that we must resolve once and for all", said Ricardo de Abreu, quoted in the statement.

According to the official, it was "precisely with its effective resolution in mind that the company's shareholders made the changes announced yesterday (Tuesday) and presented here today".

"I therefore ask António dos Santos Domingos and Nelson de Oliveira to commit personally and as a team, hand in hand with everyone who is part of TAAG, in this common objective that is urgent to achieve and resolve", he stated.

For the Minister of Transport, the shareholders of the state airline "expect, necessarily, the delivery of results from those to whom they entrust the management of their assets".

He highlighted that the company's employees and management expect the "full functioning" of the fleet and routes on which the company operates, both in Angola and abroad, "as well as its extension and recovery of passenger confidence and preference".

He also considered in his intervention, the statement added, that for TAAG to remain a relevant company "it is necessary for its management to ensure its organic growth, based on the functional and digital modernization of its performance".

The change in TAAG's board of directors was formalized, on Tuesday, at an extraordinary general meeting of the company, whose shareholders are the Instituto de Activos e Participações do Estado (50 percent), the National Air Navigation Company (40 percent) and the Social Fund for Employees and Workers in the Transport Sector (10 percent).

The national carrier was managed by Spaniard Eduardo Soria, who assumed the role of executive president in October 2021, with Ana Major presiding over the board of directors.

The last two years have been marked by labor conflict at the company, which is going through a period of restructuring and an accumulation of complaints from passengers, unhappy with the company's frequent flight delays and cancellations.

But also due to the return to profits, with TAAG recording a net profit of 460.1 million kwanzas in 2022, after years of losses, reinforcement and opening of new routes and acquisition of aircraft.

The Government wants to privatize TAAG, but does not commit to dates.

Joining the team as a non-executive director is Miguel Carneiro, who worked as a consultant for the Transport Minister's office.

The remaining directors remain in office: Misayely Celestino Isaac Abias, Iuri Miguel Guerra Neto, as non-executive directors, and João Miguel da Gama Lobo Semedo, Sais Daalaoui, Maria Manuela Resende da Costa Pardal, Nowel R. Nagala, Custódia Gabriela Pereira Bastos and Susana Ramos, as executive directors.
