Banco Keve presents the third recapitalization plan to the BNA which provides for the entry of new shareholders

Banco Keve presented a new recapitalization plan to the National Bank of Angola (BNA). This is the institution's third attempt, which after seeing two previous capital increase proposals rejected by the regulator, decided to go ahead with the opening of capital to new shareholders.

According to Expansão, which cites several sources linked to the process, the third recapitalization plan foresees the introduction of new shareholders who join with the task of strengthening the capital of the bank that did not pass a "test" of BNA supervision.

Among the failed attempts are, at first, a capital increase through a loan from the Carrinho Group and, in a second time, through a credit to Rui Campos through BCI, belonging to the Carrinho Group.

Already in this third attempt, Keve decided to choose to open capital to new shareholders. According to Expansão, the new partners will be responsible for bringing in "fresh money" and the "energy" essential to leverage the institution again within the sector's legal boundaries.

It should be noted that one of the highly commented events in the bank's rescue process happened when the BNA rejected the capital increase suggested by Rui Campos, with the regulator requesting "further clarification" about this action that would transform Rui Campos into the bank's majority shareholder. According to Expansão, the fact that Rui Campos wanted to sign the capital increase with a loan from the Carrinho Group was not well regarded by the BNA, who said that the group "is not a bank" and that Rui Campos "has to prove who will have financial resources to invest in the bank in case of need".

A source told Expansão that "the general meeting has already met and decided on the entry of new shareholders, as a way of complying with what the regulator had required".

The new plan, according to the same newspaper, has already been received by the central bank and includes information about the amount that shareholders intend to invest as well as the number of new shareholders and the institution's recapitalization strategy.

"This document contains names of possible new shareholders and a plan of how the bank will have to develop its business in the near future. I don't know if that is closed now, since Governor Massano has only now been officially sworn in and the rest still have to be sworn in of his team", added the same source.

Regarding possible new shareholders, Expansão says it has tried to find out their names, but without success.
