GPL wants to plant around 10,000 trees by April next year

The Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) wants to plant, by April of next year, around 10,000 trees, with an emphasis on palm trees, rose bells and shrubs.

:

The campaign started last Saturday, in the municipality of Talatona, with the planting of 45 trees.

The head of the Department of the Provincial Office for Environment, Solid Waste and Community Services, Stela Domingos, quoted in a note posted on the GPL's Facebook, said that the campaign will be extended to nine municipalities in the capital, appealing to citizens "to feel part of the cause, with the donation of at least one tree and participate in their maintenance and conservation".

It also guaranteed that "the conditions are prepared so that, in a first phase that runs until January 2022, at least 2500 trees can be planted, with the goal, by April 2022, being to reach 10 thousand trees, contributing thus for the defense of the ecosystem and improvement of the landscape".

For his part of it, Rui Duarte, administrator of the municipality of Talatona, indicated that the planting of the first 45 trees represents "only the beginning of a challenge that foresees the planting of 2000 trees in each of the districts of the municipality".

He added that the conditions for the maintenance and conservation of the trees are now in place, adding that a program is underway whose objective is to "sponsor the squares to improve the municipality's landscape".

Also mentioned in the note, João Dias, director of the Florida company, who sponsored the act of launching the afforestation campaign with offers of tree seedlings to the GPL, said he hoped that "the campaign will be taken seriously and that the governor will take it to heart day of afforestation throughout the province".
