Upon leaving Luanda in the early hours of this Thursday, the President received farewell greetings from the Vice President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, the Provincial Governor, Luís Nunes, and other high-ranking government officials. The First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, accompanied the Head of State on this workday.
The inauguration of the Lueji A'Nkonde University Campus is the highlight of João Lourenço's visit to the province. It comprises the university's rectorate building, 87 classrooms—two of which are for mock trials—residences for students and faculty, libraries, an auditorium, and administrative and leisure areas. Initially, the facility will accommodate over 3,000 students annually in Law and Economics programs.
It should be noted that Lueji A'Nkonde University was founded in 2009, and during the 16 years since then, it has been forced to limit the number of higher education places and the number of new programs due to a lack of infrastructure capacity. Thus, in 2022, the government invested approximately 50 billion dollars —financed by Endiama—in the construction of the Lueji A'Nkonde University Campus.
The campus's opening this Thursday will increase the educational offering from 1,500 to 3,200 places per academic year.
Also in the pipeline is the creation of a Polytechnic Institute associated with the university, which could eventually house programs such as Nursing, Geology, Mining, and Rural Extension.
According to the President's Secretary for Institutional Communications and Press Affairs, during this visit, the President also has a meeting scheduled with the provincial government of Lunda Norte for an "in-depth discussion of the general situation of this territorial unit. The meeting will take place in the afternoon and will be an opportunity for local authorities to present their main concerns to the President regarding that province.
