Covid-19: Argentina starts donating vaccines and Angola is one of the benefited countries

Argentina announced this Thursday that, guided by the principles of "solidarity and fraternity", it is ready to donate to Mozambique 450,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine against covid-19, produced in the country, and that it is preparing a donation to Angola.

:

"In the context of the international reciprocity and solidarity strategy aimed at equitable access to vaccines, Argentina will send vaccines to other countries as a donation and the first doses to be sent will be 450,000 of AstraZeneca to the Republic of Mozambique", informed the Ministry of Argentina's Health, through a note.

The Argentine government justifies the donation "because it has the necessary stock of vaccines for its entire target population" and "because it is guided by the principles of solidarity and fraternity".

"Our country is in a position to favor equitable and timely access to vaccines to other countries," stated Argentina.

Through the exchange of management experiences with other countries in a context of international cooperation, the Argentine chancellery offered doses to several countries in situations of need. Among others, Mozambique and Angola accepted the aid.

"From these countries, Argentina received favorable responses from Mozambique, Angola and Vietnam, as well as from the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (St. Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Barbados, Nicaragua and the Philippines) and the African Union", says the note.

The quantity to be sent to Angola has not yet been defined.

According to the Official Bulletin published this Thursday (11), in total, 981,000 doses will be donated in the first shipment, almost half to Mozambique. The list includes Vietnam, Dominica, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. There is still no definition of quantity for Angola.

Recently receiving doses from other countries, Argentina reversed the route of donations, now starting to issue international aid.

"Previously, Argentina received donations in excess of seven million doses and which allowed for the acceleration of complete protection in the majority of the population", said the Ministry of Health.

In total, 7.063 million doses were received, half from the United States and the rest from Mexico, Canada and Spain.

"The advance of vaccination has led to a constant fall in the number of cases 20 weeks ago", indicates the decree that justifies the donation of AstraZeneca vaccines, whose active principle is produced in Argentina.

Argentina has 78 percent of its population on one dose and 59 percent on the full vaccination schedule.
