INE: inflation rises to 26.8 percent in October

Inflation in Angola rose to 26.87 percent in October this year compared to the same period in 2020, also accelerating 2.06 percent compared to the variation registered in September, announced today the National Institute of Statistics of Angola.

"The year-on-year variation stands at 26.87 percent, recording an increase of 2.53 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year (October 2020)", reads the note released this Thursday , in which it is added that, "comparing the current year-on-year change with that registered in the previous month, there is an acceleration of 0.30 percentage points".

Looking at the evolution of prices in relation to September, INE says that "the National Consumer Price Index registered a variation of 2.06 percent" and stresses that "comparing the monthly variations (September 2021 to October 2021) it registers - a deceleration of 0.12 percentage points while, in year-on-year terms (October 2020 to October 2021), there is an acceleration in the current variation of 0.24 percentage points".

The provinces that registered the least variation in prices were Bié with 1.82 percent, Cunene with 1.83 percent, Huíla with 1.85 percent, Cuanza Sul with 1.91 percent and Cuanza Norte with 1.97 percent , while the provinces that registered the greatest variation in prices were Huambo with 2.27 percent, Lunda Norte with 2.23 percent, Zaire and Namibe with 2.18 percent each and Luanda with 2.16 percent, he adds. up on the note.

In terms of the sectors that most influenced the evolution of prices, INE writes that the category "Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages" was the one that registered the biggest increase in prices, with a variation of 2.44 percent, and also stand out the increases in prices seen in the classes "Alcoholic Drinks and Tobacco" with 2.06 percent, "Furniture, Household Equipment and Maintenance" with 2.03 percent and "Sundry Goods and Services" with 2.00 percent.
