João Lourenço says that the country is experiencing a stable situation and warns that other State of the Nation speeches are illegitimate

The President said that the country is stable in political-military terms and made it clear that any speech on the State of the Nation, which is not delivered by him, is an “illegitimate exercise of usurpation of powers”.

João Lourenço's warning appeared in the last part of a long message of 154 pages and more than two hours, in which he addressed the State of the Nation at the opening of the parliamentary year, and can be seen as a reply to the leader of UNITA, the largest party in the opposition.

Adalberto Costa Júnior, who left the National Assembly this Monday before the end of his speech, was going to present his vision on the state of the Nation last Friday, but the press conference was postponed by UNITA, after the National Assembly having convened the Permanent Commission to analyze the proposal to dismiss the President of the Republic submitted by the "Galo Negro" party.

"Any attempts by anyone to make a speech about the State of the Nation will be an illegitimate exercise of usurpation of the powers that the Constitution confers only and exclusively on the Head of State, who is a singular entity", João Lourenço pointed out this Monday.

At the end of the speech, the UNITA deputies stood up and protested against João Lourenço, shouting "dictator", while the President left waving goodbye.

On the side of the MPLA, the largest parliamentary group, there was effusive applause at some moments during the speech and shouts of support for the head of the executive, who is also the leader of the party, in the form of "Lourenço friend, the people are with you", to drown out the UNITA protests.

The country's political-military situation was analyzed by the head of state who stated that he did not see any relevant threats that could jeopardize peace, territorial integrity, sovereignty, stability, public order and the normal functioning of constitutional bodies.

João Lourenço highlighted that the Armed Forces are "solid" and firm in carrying out their mission, as is the National Police, and added that the legislative package for the National Defense sector is being prepared.

He also highlighted the focus on training and improving salaries for military personnel, as well as infrastructure: "We will continue the process of gradual resizing of the FAA, establishing the number of military personnel necessary to carry out its missions, as well as continuing to re-equip it with the necessary means", he stressed.

Regarding public security in the country, he pointed out a trend towards a reduction in crime, including violent crime, and the "constant attempts to violate illegal immigration", despite the control of land and sea borders.

More than 500 border infractions were recorded, resulting in the detention of more than 95 thousand citizens, of which 82 thousand were foreigners, said João Lourenço.
