Specialized General Hospital Neves Bendinha (re)opened by Esperança da Costa

The Neves Bendinha Specialized General Hospital – also known as 'Hospital dos Queimados' – reopened its doors this Monday. The reopening of the hospital unit, which underwent rehabilitation works, was the responsibility of the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa.

Sílvia Lutucuta, Minister of Health, speaking on the occasion, said that it is "a hospital infrastructure that, due to its characteristics and strengths, constitutes yet another example of the process of strengthening the National Health Service (SNS)", ending for contributing to promoting health, "the prevention of disease, treatment and rehabilitation of people with burns".

Quoted in a statement from the Ministry of Health, to which VerAngola had access, the holder of the Health portfolio also said that this unit will also "encourage research and staff training, providing equity and reducing inequalities in access to care quality and humanized healthcare".

"All services are equipped with equipment and diagnostic means that will allow them to increase their resolution capacity, being able to carry out exams, particularly X-rays, ultrasounds, diagnostic laboratories and clinical analyses", said the minister, quoted in the note.

The new hospital unit, which has a capacity for 80 beds, also has "hemotherapy services and a morgue with 12 drawers, with the entire infrastructure equipped with a medical gas network, HVAC network, generators and firefighting network ", reads the statement.

According to the holder of the Health portfolio, the aforementioned unit "will benefit not only the population of Luanda, but the entire country".

The government official also left the guarantee that the hospital "serves at the level of innovation and quality of healthcare provision", adds the note.

According to Sílvia Lutucuta, the unit will provide "a better response to the needs" of the population, as well as improving "attractive conditions for professionals". "It will better respond to the needs of citizens and will also improve the conditions of attractiveness for committed health professionals", she stated.

In terms of human resources, the hospital has 439 professionals, of which 47 are doctors (15 specialists and 32 interns), 209 are nurses, 90 are diagnostic and therapeutic technicians, 41 are hospital support technicians, 51 are general regime and a social worker.

According to the statement, the hospital was built "in an area of approximately 6581 square meters", and is "prepared to provide primary and specialized healthcare assistance for patients with burns, pediatric and adult internally, intensive care, bank emergency room, laboratory, imaging (x-rays and ultrasounds)". In addition, the note adds, the hospital also has "laundry, kitchen, cafeteria, sterilization, operating rooms, outpatient medical consultation, burn clinic, physiotherapy, pharmacy and others".
