The Higher Education academic calendar is now known. The 25/26 academic year officially opens in September

The new school calendar, referring to Higher Education, foresees that the 2025/2026 academic year will officially open on September 30, with classes scheduled to start on October 6.

According to the academic calendar published in the Official Gazette and accessed by VerAngola, the 2025/2026 academic year will consist of a total of 42 weeks, divided into two semesters.

"The academic calendar lasts 42 weeks, divided into two semesters, each comprising 21 weeks and nine weeks of preparation at the beginning of the year, integrating various activities whose deadlines must be met," the document reads.

Thus, the official opening of the 2025/2026 academic year will take place on September 30th, with classes scheduled to begin on October 6th.

The first semester includes a two-week break for Christmas and New Year's celebrations. This break will take place between December 22nd of this year and January 2nd, 2026.

Classes for this semester will resume on January 5th, 2026.

Between January 26th, 2026, and February 27th, 2026, the regular and retake exams will be held.

After this, there will be a break between semesters, from March 2nd to 6th, 2026, with second-semester classes beginning on March 9th, 2026.

This semester, the regular and retake exams will be held between June 29th and July 31st of the following year.

Student vacations begin on August 3rd of next year and run until September 25th, 2026.

"Of the weeks allocated each semester, 16 are mandatory for teaching activities, which include, among others, classes, seminars, orientation and self-study activities, and continuous assessment tests, according to the academic regulations of each institution," the document further states, noting that this academic calendar is "mandatory in all public, public-private, and private higher education institutions."
