According to a statement from the company, "Cabinda", which arrives this Friday in Luanda, will join the existing fleet of catamarans of Secil Marítima and has a capacity for 60 passengers, nine containers and 10 vehicles.
The 'ferryboat', about 48 meters long and with a maximum speed of 20.5 nautical miles per hour, should allow annual access by the provinces to 24,960 passengers and 51,168 tons of various products.
The vessel, built by Damen Shipyards, is transported on board the vessel "BBC Paraná", and is expected to arrive in Luanda at 7 pm, being unloaded on Saturday.
The 'ferryboat' was ordered by the Government in order to ensure the maritime route between Luanda and the Cabinda enclave, under the terms of a construction and supply contract signed between the Instituto Marítimo Portuário de Angola (IMPA) and Damen.
"The objective of this acquisition is to facilitate the maritime-fluvial connection between Luanda, Soyo and the Cabinda enclave, with a view to overcoming the geographical discontinuity and improving the living conditions of the populations and the economy of that part of the territory, involving this work construction of the breakwater and the Maritime Passenger Terminal in Cabinda province and the Fluvial Passenger Terminal in Soyo, Zaire province "is underway", notes the note.
According to Secil Marítima, until the completion of works at the Soyo and Cabinda terminals, this period will be used for technical preparations for cabotage, a new activity for the company.
