Government admits to reducing flight frequency

The government has admitted to reducing the frequency of flights to the country, if the increase in cases of covid-19 that have been occurring in the last days continues.

:

The announcement was made by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President, Adão de Almeida, who updated, in Luanda, the new rules on the calamity situation.

The previous decree, which had been in force since 8 October, contemplated measures that should last 30 days, but also assumed a permanent assessment of the epidemiological situation and adjustment of measures whenever necessary, he justified.

The new diploma, which came into force at 00:00 on 24 October, for 30 days, "does not introduce any special changes to flights", but the idea of resuming flights will be reduced to the "appropriate minimum", he said.

"In the previous view we were in an upward perspective and the program foresaw an increase in flights. Now the idea is not to increase and do an analysis of the number of flights to adapt [to the evolution of the pandemic], which may result in a decrease in flights, he admitted .

The decision "will be analyzed" by the respective ministerial department.

Angola reopened its airspace on 21 September to international flights, after almost six months ended, although operators TAAG and TAP continued to connect Angola and Portugal, through humanitarian flights.

As of that date, authorization to enter the country is no longer required, although passengers are subject to a pre-boarding screening test and home or institutional quarantines.
