President appoints interim governor for Uíge

This Friday, the President appointed Maria Fernanda Cavungo, vice-governor of Uíge, to act as governor of that province, after the death of Governor Luther Rescova last Friday, according to a presidential decree.

The decree signed this Friday by João Lourenço and published on the Presidency Facebook page states that, "while the vacancy lasts, it is up to the Vice Governor, Maria Fernanda Cavungo, to exercise all the powers conferred on the Governor and his portfolio.

Sérgio Luther Rescova, governor of Uíge, former governor of Luanda and leader of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) party, died of illness at the age of 40. The causes of death were not disclosed, but the press indicated that he had been the victim of covid-19.
