Gherda Barreto, who was speaking at a press conference on the occasion of World Food Day, which is marked this Friday, said that the amount is being implemented in three strategic areas, within the framework of the cooperation program with the Government.
Food and nutrition security, which absorbs 8 million dollars, family agriculture and agribusiness with 15 million dollars, and resilience, emergency and natural resources, with 13 million dollars, comprise the three strategic areas.
According to the representative, FAO is also monitoring the implementation in Angola of five thousand field schools.
The field schools aim to transfer knowledge of small technologies to rural communities in order to increase production and productivity and the creation of cooperatives.
FAO Angola expects the field schools to have an impact on 150,000 family farmers, of whom we project 75,000 women.
The projects are being implemented in eight provinces of the country: Bié, Huambo, Malanje, Cunene, Huíla, Namibe, Lunda Norte and Kwanza Sul.
Gherda Barreto also reported that 80 percent of their funds are possible thanks to international cooperation and other government partners such as IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development), GEF (Global Environment Facility), the World Bank, the European Union, the AfDB (African Development Bank) and others.
She also welcomed the launch of the first trade fairs for the marketing of products from the field promoted by the Government with the support of FAO.
Another very important measure, she added, "is the promotion and training of women's cooperatives to increase their access to financial services in support of agribusiness initiatives".
