The announcement was made this Monday by the director of this journalistic project, Maurício Vieira Dias, who stated that the initiative to cover Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) will have a similar dynamic to that of Polígrafo of Portugal, which is dedicated to 'fact-checking', that is, to confirming facts and data presented in speeches, especially by politicians, in the media and social networks.
"Clearly these are different realities, but everything that Portuguese Polígrafo does, Polígrafo África will do, that is, our focus is on the five Portuguese-speaking African countries", the journalist told Lusa, highlighting that the publication goes beyond traditional journalism.
Maurício Dias stated that the professionals from Polígrafo África will compare the speeches (from politicians and/or government officials and other entities) with official documents "and, if they do not match", they will be "labeled as false", and may also be classified as "true" or "inaccurate in statements or approach".
"In short, everything that Polígrafo Portugal has done we will do in Angola, of course always respecting the standards of journalism", he maintained.
At least 20 journalists, spread across Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe, should be part of the editorial team of this online publication in this embryonic phase, and the website will "infallibly" be online on Tuesday.
Maurício Vieira Dias, who will head the central editorial office of Polígrafo África, in Luanda, also guaranteed that the financial sustainability of the project "is guaranteed" and that its management has an agreement with Meta Platforms (owner of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or Whatsapp).
