According to the Aggregate Report of the Public Business Sector (SEP) in 2023, presented this Wednesday by the chairwoman of the board of directors of the Institute for the Management of State Assets and Participations (IGAPE), Vera Escórcio, in 2021, eight companies were capitalized and, in 2022, 46 were supported for their recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, in the amount of 422 billion kwanzas.
In 2023, only eight received a capital increase from the State, in the amount of 169 billion kwanzas, of which TAAG - Linhas Aéreas de Angola stands out, with 120 billion kwanzas, followed by Televisão Pública de Angola, Imprensa Nacional and Empresa Nacional de Distribuição de Energia (ENDE).
Regarding the allocation of subsidies, resources intended primarily for the payment of company salaries, there was almost stability, with the information sector receiving more than 90 percent of the amounts paid annually.
Vera Escórcio highlighted that, in the period under analysis, the extractive industry, financial activities, trade and information and communication sectors had positive net results.
"All other sectors had negative net results in 2023. In terms of results, we need to look at our cost structures, improve efficiency in terms of action and be a little more careful in our day-to-day actions", said Vera Escórcio.
In 2023, SEP grew with the creation of another company, the Water and Sanitation company of the province of Cuando Cubango, and the entry of Banco Standard Bank into the sector, through the asset recovery process.
Of the 94 companies that make up the SEP, 87, of which 82 are active and five are inactive, were required to submit their accounts, but only 70 reported their 2023 accounts to IGAPE, leaving 12 in default, of which four have already been closed down.
This year, the process of closing down and liquidating the inactive companies began, "taking into account the excessive maintenance costs" even though they were not in business, highlighted the president of IGAPE.
