ENDE leads public business sector with “biggest losses” in 2022

The National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) was the company in the Public Business Sector with the highest estimated losses of 128.5 billion kwanzas in 2022, and is in technical bankruptcy.

Aggregated data on the performance of the Public Business Sector (SEP) for the 2022 financial year were presented on Friday, in Luanda, by the Institute for the Management of Assets and State Participations (IGAPE).

ENDE leads the list of SEP companies with the greatest losses in 2022, Banco de Poupança e Crédito (BPC), the largest bank with public capital, is second on the list with losses of 120.4 billion kwanzas.

This list also includes the Bioenergy Company of Angola (Biocom) with 35.5 billion kwanzas, followed by Caminhos de Ferro de Benguela (CFB) with losses of 14.6 billion kwanzas, the Public Television of Angola (TPA ) with 13.7 billion kwanzas, and the Public Water Company of Luanda (EPAL) with 12.5 billion kwanzas.

The Zahara group with 11.4 billion kwanzas, the National Air Navigation Company (ENNA) with 5.2 billion kwanzas, the Sociedade Gestora de Aeroportos (SGA) with 4.3 billion kwanzas, and Aldeia Nova with 1.8 billion kwanzas complete the SEP table with the biggest losses in 2022.

IGAPE also lists a set of the 10 largest companies in technical bankruptcy in this period, led by Biocom with 320.74 billion kwanzas, followed by ENDE with 127.93 billion kwanzas, the Zahara group with 77.25 billion kwanzas, Angola Telecom with 75.14 billion kwanzas, and TPA with 21.48 billion kwanzas.

According to the report presented by the head of the Monitoring Department for Public Companies at IGAPE, Ednilson Sousa, the capitalization of SEP companies reached 422.1 billion kwanzas.

BPC was the public institution with the highest capitalization, in 2022, with 80.41 billion kwanzas, followed by TAAG with 39.11 billion kwanzas.

The Electricity Production Company (Prodel), ENDE, the Water Company, the National Transport Network (RNT), the Development Bank of Angola (BDA) and the National Diamond Company of Angola (Endiama) are also on the list of the most capitalized by the State in 2022.

In 2020, capitalizations to the SEP reached 206.3 billion kwanzas, in 2021 they were 168.1 billion kwanzas and in 2022 they reached 422.1 billion kwanzas.

Angolan state television also tops the list of SEP companies that benefited from operating subsidies in 2022, having allocated 10.65 billion kwanzas in this period, followed by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA) with 8.81 billion of kwanzas.

Edições Novembro, the company that owns Jornal de Angola, Jornal dos Esportes, Jornal Economia e Negócios and other titles, the Angolan News Agency (Angop), TV Zimbo, recovered by the State, CFB and the Luanda Railway (CFL) are also on the list of beneficiaries of operating subsidies.
