European Union and Angola prepare action plan to respond to the pandemic

The European Union and Angola will analyze the impact and response to the covid-19 pandemic in the context of a ministerial meeting that will take place on Tuesday, with a view to finding a concerted action plan.

According to a press release from the European delegation in Angola, this is one of the items on the agenda of the 5th ministerial meeting Angola-European Union, within the scope of the "Joint Path" program, which will be held by video conference and in which the ministers participate. Téte António, from Foreign Affairs, and Sérgio dos Santos, from Economy and Planning, and the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell.

Those responsible will exchange information on the impact of the covid-19 pandemic in Angola, Africa and Europe (particularly in the fields of health, economy and social security) and the response of both parties, including the external dimension of the response of the EU "with a view to finding a concerted action plan".

The meeting will also serve to prepare the European Union-Africa summit, scheduled for the end of October, with "exchange of views on the expectations of both Angola and the European Union".

The political and security situation in Central Africa and the Great Lakes Region, as well as in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) are other topics to be discussed at the meeting, as well as the future of Angola-EU cooperation, namely in the commercial area.

"It is expected that the V Ministerial Meeting will contribute to deepen the cooperation relations between Angola and the European Union in areas of common interest, including the development of a solid partnership in the fields of trade and investment. possibility of holding a large forum in the future, aimed at attracting European investors to Angola and the country's accession to the EU-SADC Economic Partnership (Economic Partnership Agreement-EPA) ", the statement said.

The "Joint Angola-European Union Path" refers to a program signed in July 2012, in Brussels, with the aim of strengthening the dialogue and cooperation between the parties, based on principles, common interests and reciprocal advantages.

Ministerial meetings are held annually alternately between Luanda and Brussels, with the exception of this year which will be at a distance, due to the covid-19 pandemic.
