Road accidents caused three deaths and ten injuries at the weekend in Luanda

Three people died and ten were injured in a total of 16 road accidents in Luanda last weekend, of which eight were run over, the National Police announced.

:

According to the information officer of the National Police, deputy inspector Quintino Ferreira, the high number of pedestrians being run over is worrying, because it indicates, on the one hand, the disrespect of pedestrians crossing in appropriate places and, on the other hand, the excessive speed of motorists.

"A lot of people are crossing at inappropriate points for the purpose, outside the crosswalks, outside the pedestrian crossings and also some speeding on the part of the drivers, because pedestrians are being run over within the localities, mainly in the municipality of Cacuaco, in Avenida 21 de Janeiro, at Pedro de Castro Van-Dúnem Loy and also at Avenida Fidel de Castro Ruiz ", he said.

According to Quintino Ferreira, at these points there is a constant record of being run over, "all due to some imprudence on the part of the drivers and some non-compliance on the part of the pedestrians".

"We ask here the maximum attention of drivers when they are inside the localities, do not exceed the speed to allow braking in case of any obstacle and that pedestrians cross in specially reserved places, crosswalks, to guarantee the protection of their physical integrity" , he stressed.

That police officer said that during the weekend, 81 citizens suspected of involvement in various crimes were also detained, six firearms were seized and three vehicles were recovered.

In the scope of police operations, a vehicle and 39 motorcycles were also apprehended, as well as 631 fines were imposed for various violations of the highway code.
