Students say government platform aims to "silence pressure movements"

The Movement of Angolan Students (MEA) considered this Wednesday as "a diversion" the launch of the electronic platform for the registration of youth associations and students in the country, noting that the initiative of the authorities aims to "silence the youth movements of pressure.

"This is fun, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is having fun because the National Development Plan, for example, talks about funding for youth and student organizations and the State still can't find mechanisms to fund youth organizations," said the president of the MEA, Francisco Teixeira.

In statements to journalists at the end of a ceremony to launch the technology platform, which proposes to create a database of the registry of youth and student organizations in Angola, the person in charge was sceptical about the initiative.

"The presentation of this platform leaves us sceptical because it may be the same way the state found to control the media in Angola, because if the organizations do not sign up for this platform, what happens then?", he questioned.

"It's the problem and I'm afraid of the pressure movements, the Revolutionary Movement, that can be a tactic of the State to then say that those who are not legalized here cannot advance," he said.

The government launched this Wednesday an electronic platform for registering youth and student associations in the country with the purpose of "identifying, certifying, supporting, monitoring the dynamics" and the degree of activity of the country's youth organizations.

According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ana Paula do Sacramento, the platform that aims to create a database of registration of youth and student organizations in Angola "will be an important instrument of associative management.

The creation of this electronic platform, already available at raje.gov.ao, is part of the "creation of objective conditions capable of promoting the participation of youth in public life".

According to Ana Paula do Sacramento, the platform "aims to ensure better management of youth organizations so that it is possible to know their associative dynamics, within the legal framework and at the organizational level based on statutory instruments".

"To ensure the effectiveness of the registration database of youth associations, a specific regulation will be implemented that will define the profile and scope of each association", she noted.

However, Francisco Teixeira does not believe in the "good faith" of the authorities and considers that the ministerial body "should have some fear when it comes to sell us more of this illusion".

"Because this has no benefit from a practical point of view, because I have to legalize myself in the Ministry of Justice and then I come to this platform and I don't see gains, I see this with concern," he concluded.

The platform, under the management of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication of Angola.

The presentation ceremony took place in the auditorium of the Angolan Ministry of Public Administration, Labour and Social Security, in Luanda, and was attended by several youth leaders and leaders of sports federations.
