Covid-19: Angola announces 127 new cases and four more deaths

Angola has registered another 127 new cases of covid-19, all from Luanda, and four deaths, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced this Wednesday.

Of the newly infected, 78 are male and 49 are female, aged between 1 and 78 years.

Three men and one woman, aged 48, 67, 72 and 75, have died in the last 24 hours, said Franco Mufinda, also announcing the recovery of 11 patients.

The epidemiological balance in the country now points to 4363 cases, of which 159 died, 1473 were recovered, 2731 were active, 18 were critical and 18 were severe.

A further 1677 samples were analyzed, in a total of 79,287, indicating the same responsible.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused at least 971,677 deaths and more than 31.6 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 34,331 confirmed deaths in more than 1.4 million infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics about the pandemic in the continent.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases. Angola has 159 deaths and 4363 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5018 cases), Cape Verde (52 deaths and 5337 cases), Mozambique (49 deaths and 7262 cases), Guinea-Bissau (39 deaths and 2324 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 deaths and 908 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
