Country overcomes barrier of 4000 positive cases of covid-19

The Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced this Monday 126 new cases of covid-19 in Angola, which thus exceeds 4000 infected, and two more dead.

Of the new cases, 4 are from Benguela, Huila, Zaire, Kwanza Norte and Cabinda notified one and 118 are concentrated in Luanda.

The ages vary between 11 and 80 years, being 78 male and 48 female.

An Angolan man and woman, aged 62 and 67, one from Lubango (Huíla) and another from Luanda died this Monday due to the disease.

Another four people managed to recover raising the number of recovered to 1449.

The number of infected is now 4117, of which 154 have resulted in death and 2514 are active, including eight in critical condition.

On the date of six months since the first cases were reported in Angola, Franco Mufinda also said that the average number of infections is 22 and one death per day.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused at least 961,531 deaths and more than 31.1 million cases of infection in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

In Africa, there are 33,951 confirmed deaths in more than 1.4 million people infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics on the pandemic in that continent.

Among the African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases: Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5002 cases), Cape Verde (51 deaths and 5257 cases), Mozambique (44 deaths and 6912 cases), Guinea-Bissau (39 deaths and 2324 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 deaths and 908 cases).
