In statements to the press, cited by Angop, during a visit to the hospital, the Minister of Health pointed out that this milestone makes it possible to have more precise, minimally invasive operations in the future, which allow patients to recover more quickly.
On the occasion, she said that the ministry she heads is promoting a broad prostate cancer screening campaign in order to assess patients who meet the conditions to undergo robotic surgery.
"Patients with prostate cancer, who will be the first to undergo robotic surgical intervention, if diagnosed early, can be cured", she pointed out.
Urologist oncologist Vitul Patel and his team from the American company AdvantHealth are leading the process, which includes training for Angolans, said the minister, who added that approximately 15 professionals, including doctors, nurses, diagnostic technicians, sterilization and telecommunications teams, are receiving training to operate surgical equipment, writes Angop.
Cacuaco General Hospital successfully performs first neurosurgery
However, the advances in the health sector do not stop there. Another milestone worth highlighting is the fact that Cacuaco General Hospital successfully performed its first neurosurgery.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, to which VerAngola had access, the hospital unit performed, on the 2nd of this month, "its first neurosurgery on a newborn less than 24 hours old, diagnosed with encephalocele".
The ministry says that this hospital has been operating for two weeks "and already has more than 90 percent of its services up and running, having performed several surgeries".
