Government buys three hospital robots for six million dollars

The Government will buy three robots and their respective simulators, worth six million dollars, for robotic surgery in hospitals in the provinces of Luanda and Cabinda, according to a presidential order.

:

The same order, dated July 8th and to which Lusa had access this Wednesday, authorizes the expense and formalizes the opening of simplified contracting for the purchase of robots to be installed at the Cardiopulmonary Diseases Hospital Complex in Luanda and at the Hospital General of Cabinda.

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, justifies the measure with the "imperative need" to implement robotic surgery in the country, in order to guarantee a better provision of medical assistance services to the population.

At the end of May, João Lourenço received a robotic surgery evaluation team made up of foreign experts in this advanced technique, when the application of robotic surgery in Angola as a resource for highly complex treatments was discussed.

Some patients and family members recently reported to Lusa dramatic situations in access to public health services in the country and stated that negligence, poor service, lack of medicines and human resources are responsible for the acceleration of hospital deaths.

The president of the National Union of Angolan Doctors, Adriano Manuel, accused the Government of not financing hospitals, a situation that is leading to an increase in deaths in health units due to the lack of medicines, reagents and diagnostic means.
