The data was presented at an extraordinary session of the CSMJ, which in plenary session decided that the judicial inspection teams of this body will now monitor cases of sexual abuse against minors that are being processed in the courts of common jurisdiction.
In statements to the press, the spokesperson for the CSMJ, Correia Bartolomeu, said that crimes of rape of minors have been a concern of the council, which is why he summoned the presidents of the districts to provide information on these cases.
Correia Bartolomeu explained that in cases of this type of crime, several bodies are involved and the procedural formalities reveal some slowness in the process.
“There has been some delay, not because the courts are not acting, but the procedural processing and the collection of evidence are essential. In a case of rape of minors, for example, in addition to saying that (the child) was raped, a series of examinations are required, which are carried out in health units or hospitals and take some time”, he said.
The statistical map of cases of sexual violence against minors for 2024 lists crimes of sexual abuse of minors, sexual assault, sexual abuse of an unconscious person and pimping.
At the level of the guarantee judges, the map shows the processing of 216 cases, from January to the present month, with a monthly average of 30 cases, with cases of sexual abuse of minors leading the list with a total of 167 crimes, followed by sexual assaults, with 27 cases.
Recently, the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, expressed her personal commitment to combating the abuse and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, at a conference promoted by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OPDAD), which marked the beginning of the campaign "We Are All Equal”.
Ana Dias Lourenço called on magistrates to be strict in sentencing abusers.
