Luanda terá mais 72 quilómetros de macrodrenagem para reduzir risco de inundações

Luanda will benefit from the construction of macro-drainage infrastructure covering a length of 72 kilometers, within the scope of the Luanda Road Improvement Program. The information was given by the governor of the province, Manuel Homem, during the visit to verify the level of implementation of the program carried out by the President of the Republic.

The governor stated that the country's capital has less than 15 percent macro drainage coverage, which is why he considered the situation "a serious problem". "Fortunately, with the approval of the Public Investment Program (PIP) and the initiatives of the Luanda Road Improvement Program, we will provide better coverage," he said.

The construction of macrodrainage infrastructure aims, among other aspects, to reduce flooding in homes and minimize the impacts of solid waste transported by rain, through cleaning in settlements and resurfacing ditches.

Manuel Homem assured the President of the Republic that the Road Improvement Program also aims to improve the quality of life of citizens, enhancing Luanda's neighborhoods - not only the old ones - but all those covered by the requalification program.

"Among other actions, some of these neighborhoods are already in the Luanda infrastructure intervention program", recently approved by the PR, added the governor.

The Luanda Road Improvement Program takes place in five of the province's nine municipalities, specifically in Kilamba Kiaxi, Viana, Belas, Cazenga and Luanda, with the aim of conserving, rehabilitating and building road infrastructure, lighting, supply, drainage and furniture in the urban hull of the city and peri-urban areas.

At the moment, it has a physical execution of 52 percent and a financial execution of 36 percent, says a government note.

According to the director of the Luanda Provincial Infrastructure Office, Kalunga Kissanga, the municipality of Luanda has completed interventions in the neighborhoods of Terra Nova, São Paulo, Rangel, Maianga, Ingombota, Sambizanga, Morro Bento, with emphasis on Lino Amezaga streets, do Fundão, from Amarante, Amílcar Cabral and the Angola Engineering Laboratory.

Likewise, he added, works are being carried out on the streets of Fabimor, Suave, Henrique Gago da Graça, 23 de Março, Tunga Ngó and 11 de Novembro, with completion scheduled for 2025, under the supervision of the Omatapalo and Mota-Engil consortium. from Dar Angola.

The implementation of the program generated more than 700 direct jobs and 2000 indirect jobs.
