In a note to the press, the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) expressed its “solidarity with the citizens who face immense difficulties” as a result of the rains that hit the capital.
Since September 2022, GPL has been carrying out the cleaning and maintenance program for the ditches installed in the macro-drainage systems throughout the province, in order to reduce flooding in homes, as well as the impacts of solid waste carried by the waters of the rain, it is added in the communiqué.
The GPL also mentions that the start of this program, seven months ago, "has allowed, in a preventive way, a greater drainage of water and mitigate the impact of the rains".
He also appealed for the avoidance of buildings along the natural lines of the waters, close to risky places, the non-disposal of waste in inappropriate places and greater attention to children in rainy periods.
The removal of fallen trees is also being carried out, as well as cleaning work and removal of earth and garbage carried by rainwater throughout the province of Luanda.
Last week, the fire service confirmed the death of four people following heavy rains in Luanda, and the disappearance of two others, in addition to flooding, impassable areas and thousands of people affected.
