Federation cancels second Super Cup game and declares Sagrada Esperança winner

Sagrada Esperança was declared winner of the football Super Cup, after the federation canceled the second leg match against Petro de Luanda, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The measure follows the refusal of Sagrada Esperança to play the second game, which was scheduled for Wednesday, 11 months after beating Petro de Luanda, in September 2021, in the penalty shoot-out (4-3).

The FAF regulations state that the Super Cup must be played in two legs, but at the time, due to the effects caused by the covid-19 pandemic, the body decided that the trophy would be played in a single game.

However, Petro de Luanda, Angolan champion and coached by Portugal's Alexandre Santos, protested the FAF's initiative and, in May of this year, the federation ended up ordering a second game to be played, a decision that has now been overturned.

Sagrada Esperança thus wins the first Super Cup in its history.
