Start of Girabola postponed to September 10

The start of the national football championship was postponed to 10 September, due to the non-compliance with the licensing process of several teams, the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) said in a statement on Tuesday.

:

The decision comes after only six of the 16 teams that will participate in Girabola have completed the licensing process, which ended on 1 August.

The FAF statement also mentions that the teams need to prove their financial capabilities, as well as present the report and accounts of the previous year, conditions established by the organization to play in Girabola.

In this way, the first round of the championship has been rescheduled for September 10th, a week later than initially planned, while the competition draw will take place on August 30th.

All this happens at a time when the FAF is considering the possibility that the 2022/23 season of Girabola will be played by 14 teams, as opposed to the usual 16, due to the withdrawal of Recreativo da Caála do Huambo and Cuando Cubango FC, both for reasons financial.
