Sagrada Esperança refuses to play Super Cup second leg

Sagrada Esperança refused this Tuesday to play the second leg of the Angolan Super Cup, six months after winning the unprecedented title, in a one-legged game, after winning, on penalties (4-3), over Petro de Luanda.

:

In a statement, the contesting club said that it would not accept to play again for the decision of the aforementioned title, and threatened to appeal to FIFA, if the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) decides to punish the club.

"There will be no possibility for the club to lose the title it has already won, because the FAF cannot punish the club for a violation it has committed and allow the opening of a procedure that is too burdensome in Angolan football. We decline any responsibility for this violation and we will not agree, with decisions taken outside the law and we reserve the right to appeal to FIFA, in order to see our rights safeguarded", reads the statement.

The FAF annulled the title of the Angola Supercup to Sagrada Esperança, following a protest by Petro de Luanda, because it was played in one hand, contrary to the regulations.

The regulation states that the Super Cup must be played in two legs.

The FAF justified the holding of the game in one hand due to the restrictions imposed by the covid-19, having said, at the time, that the governing body of Angolan football had the consent of the two clubs, a statement denied by Petro de Luanda, which said it was was a unilateral decision on the part of the federation.
