The rehabilitation of this pavilion, whose opening ceremony took place last Friday, "was the responsibility of the Ngana Zenza Foundation, within the scope of the 'ReviengAngola' project, which aims to promote the practice of sports in communities, with a focus on youth", informed the provincial government of Luanda, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.
On the occasion, the First Lady of the Republic said that the objective is, essentially, to "help revive sports".
"The objective is fundamentally this: to help revive sports, to continue to have the joys that we have been accustomed to having throughout this time (...)", she said, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).
Furthermore, Ana Dias Lourenço said that the objective also involves the creation of "healthy habits" in young people.
"In addition, the goal is also, let's say, to create healthy habits for our youth (...). Sports and art are ways and means of keeping young people busy, of educating them and, therefore, making them healthy, making them more respectful citizens, and that is the fundamental goal," she added.
The president of the ASA club, José Luís Prata, pointed out that the project "is doing a wonderful job for the benefit of youth and sports itself."
"We are very happy and it is another victory for all youth and all Angolan sports, because the better facilities we have, the better the quality of the coaches and athletes will be able to practice basketball, handball and futsal. These are the three sports we have and it is another victory for all the Angolan people," he said, quoted by RNA.
The official also pointed out the fact that, within the scope of the 'ReviengAngola' project, the sports halls of the Vila Clotilde and Formiguinhas do Cazenga clubs have also been renovated, and have now reached ASA.
However, he said that the project could "go to other municipalities and also at a national level", meaning that "schools, universities, municipalities, could use the municipal facilities within a pre-established program between the club and the school, college, university, in which it is possible to set a schedule, the schools come here and practice school sports and we do amateur and federated sports and even competitions, it is possible for everything".
"This is important because we get all the youth moving (...)", he also said, quoted by RNA.
The recently inaugurated court has a new look, with highlights including the new floor, basketball and handball tables, and painting.
According to Angop, the roof was not altered, having only undergone minor repairs.
The reopening ceremony of this pavilion – located on Avenida 21 de Janeiro, near the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, in the municipality of Maianga, and which can accommodate more than 2,000 spectators – was also attended by the vice-governor for the Political and Social Sector, Manuel António Gonçalves, the Secretary of State for Sports, Paulo Madeira, the director of the Provincial Office for Youth and Sports, Ernesto Diego Fernando André, among others.
