President authorizes emergency contracting for the acquisition of agricultural goods

The President authorized emergency contracting for the purchase of agricultural inputs, with a view to fostering and supporting family farming, a sector affected by the covid-19 pandemic.

Presidential Order No. 137/21, of August 26, to which Lusa agency had access this Monday, states that due to the pandemic the normal schedule for the purchase of agricultural inputs was affected.

Accordingly, the President of the Republic authorized the expenditure and opening of the emergency procurement procedure, for the award of contracts for the purchase of compound and simple fertilizers, seeds of yellow and white corn, sorghum, millet, wheat, beans, soybeans, potato seeds, various agricultural equipment and veterinary use, as well as transport services for agricultural inputs.

To the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, the President delegated the competence, with the faculty to sub-delegate, to approve the contractual procedure pieces, while the Minister of Finance must ensure the availability of the financial resources necessary for the execution of the referred contracts.

In Angola, family farming is responsible for more than 80 percent of the production consumed in the country.
