Isabel dos Santos leaves Unitel and closes the door to a “climate of permanent conflict” at the company

Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos announced this Tuesday her voluntary departure from the Board of Directors of Unitel, a company she has been linked to for more than two decades.

:

"After 20 years dedicated to the creation, development and success of Unitel, I chose to leave the position of member of the company's board of directors," said Isabel dos Santos in a statement sent to VerAngola.

Justifying this departure, the businesswoman says that at a time when the Angolan economy and the telecommunications market are experiencing "particularly adverse economic conditions", it seems "counterproductive and irresponsible to allow a climate of permanent conflict and systematic politicization of the administrators to be installed in the Board of Directors of the company, the result of relations between shareholders ".

It also states that such body must be occupied by "dedicated and team spirit people", committed to the work, the interests of the company, employees and customers.

As one of the company's founders, the engineer also claims to have "the honor and pride of having built one of the first telecommunications networks in Angola", bringing all Angolans closer.

"In the years that I led Unitel or participated actively in its management, we grew and made an investment of more than US $ 5 billion in the network, equipment and professional training, using entirely our own revenues and private bank loans and without any support from government or public funds ", he adds.

Isabel dos Santos also reiterated that the company paid taxes "as one of the major taxpayers in Angola", also unpacking Unitel's social responsibility programs.

In the statement, the businesswoman now refers to "a new page in the history of this great Angolan technology company", expressing her pride in the more than 3000 young Angolan employees and colleagues "who constitute the heart of the large Unitel family".

Finally, the businesswoman says that she will continue to support the company, saying that both she and the companies she runs will "always be on the side of progress, the economy and the creation of jobs and opportunities for young Angolans".
