According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), which gathers the most recent data from the official reports of the 55 member countries of this organization, the number of recoveries reached 846,330, that is, 12,068 more people compared to recoveries recorded on Monday.
The largest number of covid-19 cases and deaths continues to be recorded in southern Africa, with 625,499 infected and 12,792 fatalities.
In this region, South Africa, the continent's most affected country, accounts for 589,886 infected patients and 11,982 dead.
Northern Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, now has 197,101 people infected and 7592 dead and in West Africa the number of cases has risen to 148,826 and that of fatalities to 2231.
In the East African region, the number of cases of covid-19 is 104,878 and 2260 deaths and in Central Africa 51,941 cases of infection and 1009 deaths are recorded.
Egypt is the second country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, accounting for 96,590 infected and 5173 deaths, following Algeria, which has 39,649 cases and 1366 fatalities.
Among the five most affected countries are Nigeria, with 49,485 infected and 977 deaths, and Sudan, with 12,410 cases and 803 fatalities.
Among the Portuguese-speaking African countries, Cape Verde leads in number of cases (with 3203 cases and 36 deaths), followed by Mozambique (2914 cases and 19 deaths), Guinea-Bissau (2149 cases and 33 deaths), Angola (1935 infected and 88 dead) and São Tomé and Príncipe (885 cases and 15 dead).
Equatorial Guinea, which is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), has 4821 infected and 83 deaths, a number that has remained constant for several weeks.
